Betty R. Cabbage

The love of my life passed away suddenly from heart failure Thursday October 13, 2022. I miss her terribly much. She was a strong woman and a Saint of a Christian. We worked together with the Deaf Community Internationally for over 58 years.

SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE:

Married, Mother of 5 children (including one adopted deaf child from South America.) Deafened at 18 months of age by Spinal Minengitas. First Deaf Graduate of Tennessee Temple University Bible School with ThG in Missions. Betty has been the cause of the establishing of many programs for deaf people internationally including camps, schools, and social programs. Served 2 years as Independent Living Specialist with Visiting Nurse Assocation in El Paso, TX. Has taught high visual low language deaf in camps and special programs in Several Countries.
 
EDUCATION:
Graduated High School at Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville, TN.
ThG from Tennessee Temple University Bible School, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

EXPERIENCE:
Currently director of bookkeeping for World Mission Society of El Paso, Texas.

Public speaker using sign language in Churches, women’s conferences and camps internationally.

American Society for the Deaf Literacy Program instructor at El Paso, TX.

Has worked as camp counselor and speaker for deaf camp in United States, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Virgin Islands.

Has taught literacy classes for deaf people in American Samoa.

Client coach for Visiting nurse association.

Client coach for CLASS program orenting deaf clients to involvement with the general public.

LANGUAGES: Speaks American Sign Language, Mexican Sign Language, Brazil Sign Language.
